He was known as the “father of watchmaking,” In response to a commission from the Queen of Naples on June 8th 1810, the Frenchman conceived and made the first wristwatch ever known, referred to simply as number 2639. He went on to found what is considered one of the oldest timepiece manufacturers in the world. His watches are easily recognizable by their coin-edge cases, blue pomme arms and exquisite guilloche dials.
We’re proud to introduce the Stauer Watchmaker Automatic Watch, a tribute to the man who has made some of the most valuable and beautiful watches in the world. The Watchmaker possesses all the hallmarks of the Frenchman’s watch engineering skill and design finesse. In fact, we think it’s the most beautiful watch in the world.
To verify its authenticity to the Frenchman’s original timepieces, we asked George Thomas, a renowned watch historian with one of the most important museums in America to give us his opinion. Thomas confirmed that the Watchmaker is indeed the most beautiful representation of the famous Frenchman’s timepieces, bearing all his signatures from the slender metallic blue hands to the intricately-textured guilloche face. An exhibition back shows off the intricate automatic movement powered by 27 ruby jewels — a historical watch movement design dating back to the 1920s.
If we were to price the Watchmaker to be on par with the Frenchman’s originals, we’d be charging you hundreds of thousands of pounds. But because we believe in giving our customers excellence for less, we’ve priced this beauty at this incredibly affordable price. For a watch that so beautifully favours the timepieces of the father of watchmaking, this might make the history books. Take home your Watchmaker before time runs out.
